Pilot Conduct & Spirit
- AVIATE – NAVIGATE – COMMUNICATE: Fly first, talk later.
- Be polite, concise, follow clearances and charts.
- Lost? Use: Unable, Say again, or Request vectors.
- Keep your mic clean (Push-to-Talk only, no background noise).
- New to VATSIM? Say: Student pilot — controllers will guide you!
MSFS → VATSIM Connection Checklist
- Ensure your VATSIM + Audio for VATSIM accounts are active.
- Start MSFS parked, engines off, parking brake ON.
- Open vPilot (or client) → enter callsign (ex: LAZ123), aircraft ICAO (ex: A20N).
- Fill your flight plan completely (route, altitude, equipment, remarks).
- Read ATIS → contact Delivery, Ground, or Tower depending on availability.
- If uncontrolled: self-announce on 122.800 UNICOM clearly and briefly.
XPDR: 7000 VFR Europe / 1200 VFR US. Mode C in flight, Standby when parked.
Radio Phraseology — Quick Sheet
Common Examples
- Ground: “XYZ Ground, LAZ123, stand A3, IFR to LIPZ, information Alpha, request clearance.”
- Takeoff: “XYZ Tower, LAZ123, holding short RWY 27, ready for departure.”
- Lost? “Unable / Say again / Request vectors to final.”
- Uncontrolled: “XYZ traffic, LAZ123, taxiing RWY 27 for departure to LIPZ.”
Tips
- Short, clear, and professional — no “uhhh” on frequency!
- If you’re unsure, don’t panic: “Say again” works wonders.
- Don’t forget: controllers are volunteers too 💪
